What I did on my afternoon off

The artist at work.

My cousin Michelle has lived in South Africa for about six years now. Both of her children were born in Joburg, and she and her husband Scott love it there. So they made the perfect guides for a tour of Johannesburg and Pretoria on Sunday. Also, it was wonderful to see family on a business trip – that never happens in this line of work.

The photo above, of an artist at work, was taken in the gardens at the Union Buildings, the official seat of the executive branch of the South African government. Michelle and Scott also took me to the Pretoria National Botanical Garden, where we had a lovely outdoor lunch overlooking the wetland from Mokha restaurant.

We crammed a lot into our afternoon together, but there really is no end of things to see in Gauteng. Guess I’ll just have to go back!
