Spent the most wonderful day in the country, so deep into an area of southern Ohio I’d never explored but is very much like where I grew up. I was almost moved to tears on several occasions by the sheer beauty of it all. (And also by fear that the deer we kept encountering while walking high in the hills were going to charge at us.)
I was so fortunate to be raised in the middle of such scenes, surrounded by working farms and warm, humble people. After so many years away, I have been craving a return to very rural, remote life. The post-Manhattan thirst for peace and quiet is seemingly unquenchable.
